This article by Reed Lindsay for The Nation is a must read as a US citizen interested in the recuperation of Haiti as a nation post-earthquake. We ought to be aware of our government’s deployment of military to Haiti and how it has become obstructive to aid and worse, how large, international aid groups have actually been doing a TERRIBLE job in distributing aid and have excluded community-input as part of the planning. All of this has amounted to a problematic de facto occupation of the country on the US’s part and the failure to actually provide relief or assistance to those who need it most outside of the capital of Port-au-Prince. I just wish Lindsay names names of the aid organizations that need to be corrected.
